Darien has been an artist for years and was recently profiled in the Placer County Arts & Culture Magazine.

Born in San Francisco during the mid 1960s, he was exposed to the bright hues of the then, new color TV broadcasts and bold designs of the CounterCulture. His artistic parents normalized the idea of making a time and place to create art in their home and provided two and three dimensional media for him to experiment with.

His father was a printmaker and art professor in both San Francisco and later, Sierra College in Rocklin, Ca. His mother balanced raising a willful child and creating beautiful gardens, printing woodblock prints, and painting.

Often singled out as the “best drawer” in elementary school, Darien went on to pursue art and received his AA degree in the mid 80s. He further refined his skills through intensive studies and studio courses in sculpture, painting, jewelry making and graphics at CSU Sacramento and City College of San Francisco. In 1992 he moved to the island of Maui with his new family and worked as a muralist, sculptor, and finally as an art director for the themed event and convention industries. On returning to Los Angeles seven years later, he applied his skills creating enchanting sets and props for Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood theme parks. He has since returned to the foothills.

Darien enjoys mountain biking, kayaking, and traveling with his wife to the Far East and Europe for creative inspiration and specifically to visit his daughter and her family in Italy.

Darien enjoys creating slightly off-kilter and playful images. He works on smaller panels and larger gallery wrapped canvas with oil. He also creates tropical landscapes with oil in his own unique Cubist style.
